Olivetti S.p.A. was founded by Camillo Olivetti in 1908.

In 1929, the Hispano Olivetti a subsidiary company of Olivetti S.p.A. was set up in Barcelona. It was initially based in the Poblenou district of Barcelona.

After the Civil War, Hispano Olivetti absorbed the company La Ràpida.

During the first years of the Franco regime Hispano Olivetti was one of the most favored companies by the regime.

In 1942, a new factory came into operation near Plaça de les Glòries in Barcelona, which was among the most important Olivetti factories worldwide.

In 1964 a new building was built to located the company's offices (Edifici Hispano Olivetti). It was designed by architects L. Belgioioso, E. Peressutti and E.N. Rogers (BBPR). In 2015-16 it was completely remodeled to transform it into a hotel.
