Description
French statesman Raymond Poincaré, renowned for his gravity, executes a sort of tap dance showing his rotating heels branded Select, which strengthen the soles without producing any metallic noise. Of course, he is so happy because of his heels... but French audience of the time could immediately catch the allusion to Poincaré unexpected election, stressed by the ambiguous meaning of the word “tournant” (which alludes to both the rotating heels and the rotating presidency) and the clear conclusion “it rallies every vote”. French poster artist and painter Adrien Barrère (pseudonym of Adrien Baneux) was a master of caricatures; he designed a large number of posters for Parisian cinemas (his collaboration with Pathé was particularly successful, with a production of over 200 posters) and Grand Guignol. Lithograph poster printed by Aff. d'Art Robert, linen backed, A- condition. Dimensions in inches: 62.6 x 45.7''.
