Description
Poster for the first Exhibition of Art and Crafts held in Barcelona in 1892, in the Palau de les Belles Arts (the Palau, demolished in 1942, was a multi-purpose building situated in front of the Parc de la Ciutadella; it was built in 1888 for the Universal Exposition). Catalonian painter, illustrator and cartoonist Josep Lluís Pellicer worked for "La Ilustración Española y Americana", "The Graphic", "Le Monde Illustré" and several others. After helping to organize in the 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition and creating its official poster, he was named Director of the newly created "Museo de Reproducciones". He was also an experienced book illustrator (he was the artistic director of the Editorial Montaner i Simón): this allegorical poster, heightened with gilt and with calligraphy text, leaves no doubt. Printed in lithography, linen backed, B+ condition. Dimensions in inches: 59,4 x 38,2''.
