PRIMAVERA DE 1910

Symbolist poster commissioned for a spring celebration held in Barcelona in 1910. Born in a wealthy family of Barcelona, the painter and pedagogue Francesc d'Assís Galí received an excellent education by his father and his uncle Pompeu Fabra; in addition, he studied etching with Alexandre de Riquer; years later, he founded the school Escola d'Art Galí (Joan Miró was one of his students). Galí was devoted to public life and used to take part in special events held in Barcelona (for example, he was Art Council Member for the International Exposition held in Barcelona in 1929, for which he also created several posters). During the Civil War, he was General Director of Fine Arts for the Spanish Republic: in that position, he rescued more than 3000 works of art from the war.
