Description
In the history of Spanish advertising, Anís del Mono is one of the companies with the strongest brand image. In 1898, the owner Vicente Bosch announced a poster contest: 162 proposals were presented, 3 of them created by Casas, who won the contest with a poster representing a woman (a central element of his ad images) with the eponymous monkey, in a style characterized by accuracy and simplicity of the drawing. Later, Anís el Mono conquered two other quality prizes: one in Paris in 1900, the other one in Bordeaux in 1907; in order to celebrate these results, it was created this poster with green background, presenting similar features to the previous posters. Casas' works for Anís del Mono are an important part of the history of poster art and are recognized as jewels of Catalan Art Nouveau.
