Description

Charles Kiffer was very young when he began to draw and paint caricatures of actors. On 1923, he designed for his own pleasure a portrait of Maurice Chevalier, who later commissioned him to realise all the posters for his shows between 1926 and 1927. After that period, Kiffer kept on collaborating with Maurice Chevalier on occasional basis, designing 13 more posters until 1963. In addition, he illustrated several posters for other world-famous stars: Edith Piaf, Yves Montand, Josephine Baker, Brigitte Bardot and many others. Lithograph poster advertising a flamenco show performed at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées (Paris). Note the amazingly modern design: the silhouette of the dancer is filled with Spanish colours and symbols - the horses -. A rather funny story: the dancer was Italo-American, but he made his fortune pretending to be Spanish. Linen backed, B+ condition. Dimensions in inches: 63 x 45.6''.
